August 26th -- Clyde Iron Works

This round it was back to Clyde Iron (the site of the very first dinner club gathering,) 2920 W Michigan St. in Duluth. Where there were only 7 of us this time (as compared to 15 before,) we made up for it with vibrant conversation and a lot of laughs.

The establishment was fairly busy on a summer Tuesday evening when we arrived at 6:00 p.m., and there were quite a few people who came to hear the bluegrass band, but by the  time we left at 8:30, we had the restaurant pretty much to ourselves. The plus side of this is that it looks like a place where you can drop in and not have to worry too much about a wait.

Average Ratings of 6 total (low score, high score):

Curb Appeal: 4.0 (2, 5)
Inside Decor: 4.7 (4, 5)
Service Speed: 3.3 (1, 5)
Wait Staff Rapport: 4.0 (3, 5)
Food Presentation: 4.3 (2, 5)
Taste: 4.5 (3, 5)
Value: 4.5 (4, 5)

Comments:
Loved the crabcake sandwich special. Fries are OK, but I've had better

I think I would have liked the sausage and pepperoni stromboli better than the steak. The steak had plenty of fillings with the shaved prime rib, onions, peppers, and cheese, but it lacked a bold taste. The marinara sauce accompanying lacked the zesty flavor I prefer, which compounded the bland nature of the dish.

PS: We need to get into a routine of taking pictures!!!!!!! :)

July -- Canal Park Brewing

We braved the Canal Park summer parking to get a seat outside, and ended up inside anyway! Oh, well. Good craft beer and good conversation!

Sorry, but nothing else to report from 9 of us there since the forms were forgotten at home!

Eddie's Restaurant, Superior WI, 6/19/14

There were 9 of us who made the trip to Superior's east end to enjoy this long-time staple of the town's residents. Famous for its ribs, many of the group took them up on this option, and the overall impression was that they did not disappoint! Not the most eloquent of settings, menu, nor decor, the restaurant does have a small-town charm with "antiques" adorning the walls, and an attentive wait-staff.

The Goods:

Here are the averages (with low and high ratings) of each of our categories:

Curb Appeal -- 2.5 (1, 4)
Inside Decor -- 3.1 (2, 5)
Service Speed -- 3.9 (3, 5)
Wait staff rapport -- 3.1 (2, 4)
Food presentation -- 4.3 (2, 5)
Taste -- 4.5 (3, 5)
Value -- 4.3 (4, 5)

Comments:

Sweet and spicy sauce on ribs very good, but needs more of it
Ribs very tender
Good portion sizes
Glad we visited Eddie's, I always wanted to try it

Welcome to the Duluth Dinner Club Blog

The Duluth Dinner Club is a group of friends who go out once every month or so to a different restaurant in the Duluth/Superior area and surrounding communities. There are anywhere between 11-20 people present at any one evening out. The blog is open to all who attend to share their experiences, good or not so good, with others.

We have a 5 point general rating scale on 7 different aspect of the restaurant:

1) Curb Appeal
2) Inside Décor
3) Service Speed
4) Wait staff rapport
5) Food presentation
6) Taste (duh!)
7) Value

Each participant is given the opportunity to rate the establishment on each of these categories and the averages are tallied in each post. Members are also encouraged to make their own personal comments on each post as well.

Enjoy!
